Tooth Extraction: When It’s Necessary and What to Expect

While we always try to save a natural tooth first, sometimes extraction is the safest and healthiest option. Here’s when it’s necessary and how recovery works.

When Is an Extraction Needed?

Severe decay, advanced gum disease, overcrowding, or a badly damaged or impacted tooth are the most common reasons an extraction becomes necessary.

Is It Painful?

With local anesthesia, the procedure itself is not painful. Most patients feel pressure rather than pain, and any post-procedure discomfort is manageable with the aftercare instructions we provide.

Recovery and Aftercare

Bite gently on gauze to control bleeding, avoid hot foods and straws for the first 24 hours, and stick to soft foods for a couple of days while the area heals.

Replacing an Extracted Tooth

Once healed, we’ll discuss options like a bridge, denture, or partial denture to fill the gap and keep your bite and surrounding teeth stable.
